Taylor Swift Live Webcast for Scholastic (Read Everyday)

We had an exciting afternoon!  The entire 4th grade participated in a live webcast with Nick Cannon & Taylor Swift.  They talked about their love of reading and Taylor told us that she is able to write her songs because she loves to read!  She ended the webcast by singing one of her new songs, "Mine."

Erin:  I thought it was really cool.  She even sang one of her new songs.

Taylor: I think it was a very good idea to have a live web cast with kids all over the world.  She gave really good advice. She sang a song from her new album Speechless called "Mine".

Stefanie:  I think that it was really cool to watch the webcast. It would make anyone happy just to watch her on the T.V.

Regina:  I think it was awesome to be able to have Taylor Swift talk to schools around the world.  I never knew she liked to read.

Angie: I think it was very cool because we got to hear one of Taylor Swifts songs. It was really nice.

Shelby: I think it was cool when she answered everyone's  questions.

Rachel:  I really liked how Taylor Swift answered questions and how she sang a song.

Tristan:  It was cool how Taylor Swift sang a song for us.  I liked it a lot.

Ryan: It was amazing that we saw Taylor Swift.

Adam: I think that it was cool that Taylor Swift loves books.

Alex:  I think that was cool to see Taylor Swift say that she likes books!

Zach:  I think that web casts are really cool. I can't wait until the next web cast.

Kaylin:  I think that it was really cool that we got to web cast with Taylor Swift!

Ki:  I thought that her songs were good and I thought she really paid attention in school.

Fossils, Molds, & Casts

In Science last week, we did an exciting quick lab!  We used clay, plaster of paris, and shells to create our own casts and molds.  We discovered that the mold and the cast are similar because each has the shape of the shell, but they are different because the mold is hollow and the cast is solid.  They are also made out of different materials.

Here are some student comments about this experiment:

Emily:  The experiment was really fun and cool!  I liked putting the plaster into the clay.

Tristan:  It is so much fun because we got to make a fossil.  My favorite part was to flatten the clay.

Taylor: The experiment we did was really fun. We got to get our hands a little messy with clay and petroleum jelly. It was really cool!

Erin: I really liked the experiment!  It was really fun!  I loved to put the shell into the clay!

Ki:  I thought the experiment was really cool! I love science!

Kaylin: It was so fun and cool!

Anjie: I liked when we got to work in groups.

Regina: I liked the experiment.  It was fun to use plaster.  I can't believe we made fossils!

Zach: The experiment was really fun. The shells came out really well.

Rachel: When I did the expariment I felt like a real Sientist.

Shelby: I liked shaping the shells into the clay. It felt like a real fossil.

Stef: I thought that the experiment taught me something completely new.

Adam: I loved when we put the plaster into the clay.

Ryan: The petroleum jelly felt like it was burning.
